Renault Fluence Research

Having purchased a Renault Fluence which has the BCI ("Battery Charge Impossible") coming up after a period of driving,
I am documenting the repair of this.

Apparently according to all the research on the internet it is caused by the motor.
It's actually an insulation problem.

Renault fix this by replacing the motor at a cost of £1,750 by all reports.

The Fault

This is actually a failure of the enamel of the copper core in the exciter or armature.

The windings in the core are shorted to the laminates as can be seen by checking the resistance between the slip rings and the armature casing.

Now, this is not causing the motor to stop working, so the next step is to find a way to keep using the car without it coding out.
